This is an extra large mixed metal padlock from the Tuareg tribe of Niger, West Africa. Would have been used to lock a wooden trunk. Has symbolism related to the four corners of the Sahara- the repeated square shapes and triangular and dot engravings. . Nicely patinated and in good condition. The key is not present. Often these are new and it’s uncommon to find an old one . We guarantee that this item has been tribally used. Width of lock 20cm approx
