A RARE, MINIMALIST TOPENG MASK FROM JAVA INDONESIA ( No 2550)

This is a rare minimalist theatre mask from Java, Indonesia.  It is unusual because it is so pared down- without eyes, or a mouth.  It is therefore an unexpected Topeng dance theatre mask, with caterpillar eye brows and moustache.  Features well developed patina which has darkened with age and use.  In good collectable condition with wear. Does not stand unassisted.  We guarantee this item has been indigenously used. Height of mask approx 20cm
