A SYMBOLIC NDOP HAND SPUN CLOTH, BAMILEKE TRIBE CAMEROON W. AFRICA ( No 2425)

 A full size, Ndop strip weave fabric from Cameroon, West Africa.  Made from hand spun cotton, which indicates its old age. Has a particularly pretty geometric, asymmetric, design.  Women artisans stitch in the geometrical resist design in raphia thread, which is dyed with indigo. The geometric shapes are all symbolic.  Worn by nobles of the Bamileke people.  In solid original condition with wear.  Height  approx 350 x 100cm
