A WONDERFUL ANIMAL MAGIC SQUARE WRITING BOARD FROM HAUSA TRIBE NIGERIA ( No 4383 )

This is an animal shaped writing board from the Hausa tribe of Nigeria, west Africa.  Rare form.  There is a large bird on one side and a chequered magic square on the other.  It is thought that the knowledge of magic squares is hidden and conferred by God to very few selected and elite faithful.   The magic square is a talisman which is protective. It’s believed that it is an illumination from God.  Those privileged to know the secrets of magic squares are prophets, Gnostics, philosophers, and naturalists.  Made of wood with ink lettering and a leather wrapped handle.  A well developed patina.  This is an uncommon item that is hard to find.  In good condition with one arm missing.  We guarantee this item has been tribally used.  Height approx 50cm
