This is a really striking, multi layered leather talismanic necklace from ethiopia, East Africa. Each talisman is called Kitab. Made of hand processed and dyed leather, with leather vellum scrolls inside. On those scrolls is a mixture of Christian prayers and 4thc Hellenistic magic. Born as a protective prescription from an Ethiopian elder, intended to protect a new born. Has an antique, used patina, obviously darkened and softened with age. In good condition with some wear. Height approx 60cm
